# Bright Data

Web data provider whose Web Scraper API returns structured LinkedIn profile sections, such as activity, publications and patents, from a profile URL.

Recommended. Last reviewed October 31, 2026.

## At a glance

- Website: https://brightdata.com
- Best for: AI-native, Agencies
- Ease of use: Medium (A collection is a few API requests, but the docs show two body shapes for the same call and you have to test which fields actually come back populated.)
- Interface: UI + API, agent-ready
- Agent readiness: Collections run through REST calls (trigger, progress, snapshot) plus a CLI, SDKs and an MCP server, so an agent can start and poll them headlessly; we've called the API but haven't run the MCP.
- Pricing: Free tier (5K records/mo); pay as you go $1.5 per 1K records; Scale $499/mo; enterprise custom.

## Who it's for

An API-first data source that returns profile sections the enrichment providers skip, so builder teams can add activity, publications and patents to a code-run workflow.

## About

What Bright Data actually is.

Bright Data is a web data company, and the part we tested is its Web Scraper API. You give it a LinkedIn profile URL, and it sends back structured fields. The provider does the collecting, including proxy rotation and anti-bot handling on its side. You make an API call. On 31 October 2026 we ran its people-profiles dataset on 18 real profiles and compared the output with hand-taken captures of the same pages.

The result split cleanly. Activity, publications, patents, projects and courses came back, and the other providers we tested didn't return those. But work history was empty on all 18 profiles, and so was job title. A very public control profile did return experience, so our guess is that the dataset sees a logged-out view. Just a guess, and the vendor hasn't confirmed it. Use it for section coverage, not as an employment source.

### What it does

- Collects LinkedIn people profiles from a profile URL and returns structured fields such as name, about, education, followers, languages and certifications.
- Returns activity, publications, patents, projects and courses when the profile shows them.
- Runs as a job: trigger a collection, check its progress, then download the snapshot as JSON.
- Accepts a batch of profile URLs in one request, with a separate synchronous call for a single profile.
- Delivers by API, webhook or cloud storage, with Python and Node.js SDKs, a CLI and an MCP server.
- Bills per successful record, so failed deliveries cost nothing, and a free tier renews each month.
- Covers other LinkedIn data through separate scrapers, including companies, jobs and posts.

The compliance claims on the vendor's pages are the vendor's own words. We haven't verified them.

## Runs well with

The tools we'd run next to Bright Data, and what each pairing covers.

- [BlitzAPI](https://leadlinepartners.co/tools/blitzapi): In the same 18-profile test it returned titles and career entries for the profiles it found, which is what Bright Data left empty.
- [Clay](https://leadlinepartners.co/tools/clay): Its Enrich Person step returned real headlines and titles in the same test, so it covers the fields Bright Data misses.
- [MoltSets](https://leadlinepartners.co/tools/moltsets): A reverse LinkedIn lookup that returned a title for all 18 profiles in the test, a second source for the field Bright Data leaves out.

## Pricing

From the Bright Data pricing page, verified October 31, 2026.

| Plan | Price | Includes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Free Tier | $0 (per month) | 5K records per month; No credit card required |
| Pay as you go | $1.5 per 1K records ($0.0015 per record, usage-based) | No upfront commitment; Pay only for success; Monthly spend limits; Unlimited concurrency |
| Scale | $499 (per month) | 384,000 records included; $1.3 per 1K additional records |
| Enterprise | Custom (custom) | Volume discounts; Account manager; Premium SLA; SSO |

Directional only. Billing is per successful record, so failed deliveries cost nothing, and the dataset page shows no price of its own, only the general plan rate. At the pay-as-you-go rate a small test batch costs cents, and the larger bill comes from volume, not from any one call. We haven't confirmed the cost of our own test against an account statement.

## The verdict

### Choose it if

- You want activity, publications, patents or projects from a LinkedIn profile and you already have the profile URL.
- You want a provider to do the collecting so your side only makes an API call, with no scraper of your own to maintain.
- You'll drive it from code or an agent: the trigger, progress and snapshot calls are plain REST.

### Skip it if

- You need work history or a current job title. It returned neither on any of our 18 profiles (work history 0/18, title 0/18), so use an enrichment API for those fields.
- You need a source for an employment check before outreach. It isn't one.
- You need one known price per profile before you start. The pricing page shows plan rates, not a dataset-specific price.

## Alternatives

If not Bright Data, then what.

- [Apify](https://leadlinepartners.co/tools/apify) (Free tier ($5/mo usage credit) then paid plans from $29/mo (Starter), usage-based overage billing): Choose Apify when you want a marketplace of pre-built scrapers for many different sites and are happy to configure one per source.
- [PhantomBuster](https://leadlinepartners.co/tools/phantombuster) (from ~$56-69/mo (Starter plan), 14-day free trial, a limited free tier (2h execution, 5 slots, capped credits); annual billing gets ~20% off): Choose PhantomBuster when you want LinkedIn prospecting automation with list exports and a point-and-click setup instead of API calls.
- [Browse AI](https://leadlinepartners.co/tools/browse-ai) (Free tier (50 credits/mo) + paid plans from $19/mo (annual billing)): Choose Browse AI when you want no-code, point-and-click scrapers for sites you monitor and nobody on your side writes code.
- [Firecrawl](https://leadlinepartners.co/tools/firecrawl) (Free tier (1,000 credits/mo); paid plans from $16/mo (Hobby), up to $599/mo (Scale); enterprise custom quote.): Choose Firecrawl when the pages you need are public web pages rather than LinkedIn profile sections, and you want clean markdown or JSON back.

## FAQ

Asked in real client work.

### Does Bright Data return work history or job titles?

Not in our test. On 31 October 2026 we ran its LinkedIn people-profiles dataset on 18 real profiles by URL. Work history came back on 0 of 18 and job title on 0 of 18. A very public control profile did return experience, which fits a logged-out view, but the vendor hasn't confirmed the cause. Use an enrichment API for employment data.

### What does it return that other enrichment providers didn't?

In our comparison against BlitzAPI, Clay Enrich Person and a MoltSets reverse lookup, Bright Data was the one that returned activity, publications, patents, projects and courses. The others returned titles, and BlitzAPI and Clay also returned career history, which Bright Data didn't. So the two kinds of provider complement each other.

### How much does it cost per profile?

The pricing page lists plan rates, not a dataset-specific price. Pay as you go is $1.5 per 1K records, or $0.0015 per record, and Scale is $499 per month with 384,000 records included, then $1.3 per 1K. The docs say the dataset is billed per successful record. At the pay-as-you-go rate our 18-profile test would come to about $0.027. That's a derived figure, not a number from our account statement.

### Is there a free tier?

The pricing page lists a free tier of 5,000 records a month with no credit card, as read on 31 October 2026. The docs separately mention $2 in free credit for new accounts, and the LinkedIn page words the allowance in credits. The vendor's own pages don't agree on the wording, so confirm what your account gets before you plan around it.

### Can an agent run it?

Yes. The collection flow is three REST calls (trigger, progress, snapshot), and the vendor also ships a CLI, SDKs and an MCP server. We've called the API. We haven't run the MCP. If you use the MCP for LinkedIn work, keep it to the dataset calls and away from the generic page-scraping and browser tools.

### Is it compliant to use on LinkedIn data?

The vendor says it collects only publicly available data and lists ISO 27001, SOC 2 controls, GDPR and CCPA. Those are its own statements and we haven't verified them. Whether a given use fits LinkedIn's terms and the law where you operate is a separate question, so get advice for your case.
