Most GTM stacks run on people clicking through dashboards, and every click is a judgment call nobody wrote down: which list, which filter, which send. Codified GTM starts from the opposite assumption. A tool only qualifies if it can be driven headlessly, through an API, CLI, MCP server, or webhooks, so the logic that used to live in someone's head lives in code instead, something an agent can execute, inspect, and repeat rather than tribal knowledge that walks out the door with whoever built the workaround.
One version of it: an orchestration layer running as agent sessions with file access instead of a browser tab, enrichment running as per-task waterfalls with the vendor order and credit cost tuned per job rather than one fixed cascade, sends going out through an API instead of a UI, and intent signals arriving back in by webhook. None of that needs a new category of tool. It needs every existing tool in the chain to expose a way in that isn't a mouse click.
The point isn't any single tool in that list. It's that every step in the motion can be triggered, checked, and corrected from code, which is what keeps the judgment behind it something you can read instead of something you have to trust.
Codified doesn't mean UI-free everywhere, and claiming otherwise is the mistake to avoid. A tool can qualify because it's driven programmatically even while its core workflow logic still lives in a visual builder underneath. The badge marks what an agent can operate on top of a tool, not a purity test on how the tool itself was built. Confuse the two and a stack ends up rated on vibes instead of on whether an agent could actually run it.
Checking whether a stack is codified is a five-minute audit, not a philosophy debate. For each tool in the chain, ask whether it can be triggered by something other than a person clicking through its UI. If yes, an agent can run that step. If no, that step is still a manual bottleneck wearing an automated stack's branding.
The common mix-up is assuming codified means fully autonomous, nobody touches anything. It doesn't. It means the workflow can be operated without a mouse, which is a different claim from being unsupervised. A tool with an API that a person still runs through its UI every day isn't codified in practice, even if the API exists and could technically do the job.
