LinkedIn Sales Navigator is LinkedIn's paid prospecting product, offering advanced search filters, saved lead and account lists, and a monthly allotment of InMail messages that let a user message people outside their direct network.
A free LinkedIn account can search by title or company, but the filters stop there. Sales Navigator adds search fields a standard account doesn't have: seniority level, function, company headcount, whether someone posted a job recently, and whether they changed roles recently. Those extra filters are the main reason teams pay for it. A search that would take dozens of manual profile checks on a free account can be narrowed to a workable list in a few clicks.
Sales Navigator is a research and sourcing layer, not a data-enrichment tool. It surfaces the people who match a set of filters, plus alerts when a saved search or saved lead changes something relevant, like a new role. It doesn't reliably surface verified work emails or direct-dial phone numbers. Most teams still run the exported list through a separate enrichment step before it's ready to send to.
It comes in a few plan tiers with different feature sets and InMail allotments, but the core value across tiers is the same: better filtering and list-building than a standard account gives you, plus the ability to message someone directly through InMail without needing an existing connection first.
Teams typically use Sales Navigator to build and rank a list, then export or sync it into a CRM or enrichment workflow rather than working leads inside the tool itself. Saved search alerts get used as a lightweight signal feed: a save on "VP of Sales, changed jobs in the last 90 days" surfaces a fresh reason to reach out without anyone manually rechecking the list.
A Sales Navigator list gets treated as a ready-to-send lead list because it looks clean and filtered. It isn't. The tool confirms someone matches a set of firmographic and role filters; it says nothing about whether their listed email is current or whether they're the right person to reach on this specific deal. That still takes a verification and research step before outreach goes out.
