An email API and SMTP platform for developers to send transactional and marketing emails at scale.

Resend is an email API and SMTP relay built for developers, not a marketing dashboard with an email feature bolted on. You call the REST API, drop in an SDK for Node, Python, Ruby, or another supported language, or point your existing SMTP client at it. Domain authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) is still on you to set up before anything sends reliably.
It covers both sides of email: transactional sends like receipts and password resets, and marketing broadcasts to a contact list. Those two run on separate pricing meters that scale independently, worth checking closely before you commit to a plan. Inbound email parsing is included too, so replies can route back into your app instead of disappearing.

The bill is driven by two separate meters: email volume and marketing contacts, and they scale independently across tiers. Free covers 3,000 emails/month on 1 domain; Pro starts at $20/mo for higher email volume across 10 domains, and marketing contacts are priced separately on the Pro marketing plan, scaling up to 150,000; Scale runs $90 to $1,150/mo depending on volume, up to 2.5 million emails a month. Costs creep up from three places buyers often miss: per-1,000 overage charges once you exceed the plan's included volume ($0.90 on Pro and Scale's base tier, dropping to $0.46 at Scale's top tier), the $30/mo dedicated IP add-on gated to accounts over 3,000 emails/day, and automation runs beyond 10,000/month billed at $0.0015 each.
Choose SmartLead when the job is cold outbound at scale across many inboxes, not transactional or product email from your own app.
Choose Instantly when you need built-in inbox rotation and warmup for cold email campaigns rather than an API for app-triggered sends.
Overage is billed per 1,000 emails beyond the plan's included volume. The rate is the same on Pro and Scale's base tier ($0.90 per 1,000) and drops only on Scale's higher-volume tiers, so a sudden volume spike costs more per email than upgrading ahead of it would.
The free plan caps at 3,000 emails/month and 1,000 marketing contacts on 1 domain, which is enough for testing or a very early-stage product but not for anything with real signup or notification volume.
Dedicated IPs are a $30/mo add-on and available on Scale plans (also included with Enterprise), and Resend gates them to accounts sending over 3,000 emails a day - below that, shared IPs are the default and the recommended path.
It has a Broadcast API and dashboard editor for sending to contact lists, but contact limits are tied to the plan (1,000 on Free up to 150,000 on Pro (there's no separate Scale tier for contacts)) and the automation/segmentation tooling is thinner than dedicated marketing platforms.
Resend's API and SDKs are built to feel similar to those tools, and domain verification (SPF/DKIM) works the same way, but you still need to re-verify sending domains and re-point application code to the new API keys and endpoints.
